Assignment 4
Q. What were the opinion of Kothari Commission 1964-66 on vocationalization of
education? Explain.
Ans: Kothari Commission of 1964-66 emphasised particularly the need to
vocationalize secondary education and to expand the vocational courses to cover
about half of the total enrolment at this stage. A large variety of terminal courses
were organised, varying in duration from one to three years. They include courses
for the training of primary and pre- primary teachers, courses conducted by the
industrial training institutions for a large number of trades for which the
completion of studies of class X is the minimum qualification. Courses in agriculture
and industry, courses for training paramedical/health personal; courses for
Secretariat work and courses in Home Science were also included. More extensive
and intensive part of vocational education will start at +2 stage, that is higher
secondary stage, which is considered to be the most crucial and controversial stage
in the whole system of education. To develop the vocational attitude in the mind
of the students,Commission adviced to implement work experience in school
education. Work experience means the participation of students in productive
situation at home , school, factory, firm, workshop etc. According to the
Commission manual work become educative , if gives expression to the creative
impulse of the young minds. It is the prime duty to make the learner economically
self- sufficient. According to this Commission vocational education is the only hope
of the young stars with lower intelligence, it can only bridge the gulf in the society.
