                                    Dear colleagues, you are kindly invited to take part in the
                                            Northern European FRIEND & AMHY 
                                           Joint Low Flow and Drought Meeting
                   To be held:  Bratislava, Slovakia
                   Date:              November 10 – 12, 2008
                   Place:                      Faculty of Natural Science, Comenius University

                   Objectives of the joint meeting:
                          i.       to present recent research achievements on low flow and drought
                          ii.      to identify future challenges
                          iii.     to prepare joint research activities
                   Scientific workshop is a contribution to IHP VII-Extremes and to the Year of the Planet
                   Earth. 
                   Six topics will be addressed:
                          1: DATA - DROUGHT MONITORING - INDICATORS
                          2. DROUGHT GENERATING PROCESSES AND MODELLING
                          3: DROUGHT PATTERNS AND CHARACTERIZATION
                          4: DROUGHT: LARGE-SCALE DRIVERS - TELECONNECTIONS
                          5: DROUGHT FORECASTING AND PREDICTION
                          6: HUMAN IMPACTS ON DROUGHT – GLOBAL CHANGE

                   All participants are invited to present results of their own work in the field of low flow
                   and drought research in 20 min. presentations (projections facilities are available).
                   In addition you are invited to contribute to objective ii) and iii) above, which also will
                   be topic for group discussions. The outcome of the discussions will be presented in a
                   report following the meeting. Limited funding, mainly for young scientists, is
                   available.
