B. Programmatic Information
World Food Program (WFP) Nepal as a lead/prime organization in partnership with Mercy Corps and
other partners, is going to implement a four-year Food for Education Program funded by USDA. In the
consortium, Mercy Corps led the activity Promote Improved Nutrition (or Food Diversity for Improved
Nutrition). Under this activity Mercy Corps provides strategic leadership for two of the sub-activities
'Local Purchase of Food: Hybrid Food Basket' and 'Home Grown School Feeding: Technical Assistance
Post-Hand Over'.
The aim of the Mercy Corps’ interventions is to facilitate the development of a fully sustainable and
locally sourced and managed food system for schools. This includes designing and implementing the
strategy and detailed roadmap for schools to self-manage a cash-based program where they locally
procure and manage relationships and contracts with local producers, cooperatives, and suppliers to
supply the appropriate and necessary school meal food items during relevant timeframes. The program
activities will link day school meal programs to smallholder farmers, farmer's cooperatives, school
management, community groups and local government to enhance the program's long-term
sustainability.
The program is only targeted in Bajhang and Darchula districts in the year 2022 and works with
788 schools.
Mercy Corps is seeking local implementing organisations which have both a) existing presence and
established operations and b) existing approval from the relevant district level government authorities to
operate in the six programme districts.
● Does your organisation have an existing presence to work in at least one of the targeted
programme districts? Please specify which of the targeted districts you currently operate in?
● Does your organisation have the required district level government approval to work in the
proposed districts? Please provide supporting documentation.
● Please explain the context of your district(s) regarding: i) the agricultural sector ii) the situation
of primary school management iv) school feeding/midday school meal programme in the
education sector in your district(s) v) the different types of shocks and stresses.

● Support schools to build a sustainable local sourced Day School Meal System
● Work with farmers, cooperatives, communities’ input and output suppliers and the government to
develop market linkages with schools
