REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIP WORKS!
GTA’s perspective
Confidential & Proprietary
Why did GTA participate?
With privatization in 2005, GTA began transforming
itself: from government telephone company to a
competitive technology company
We need to give our employees the right tools to do their
job and training is at the top of that list
In 2007, GTA sought to expand its current technical
training program to include opportunities from various
external facilitators to better equip its employees
How did GTA Start?
GTA learned of the Registered Apprenticeship Program
through a pamphlet handed out at a Job Fair
GTA partnered with Alfred Valles, former State Director,
Office of Apprenticeship for Hawaii and the Pacific
Region, along with Phyllis Topasna, Apprenticeship
Coordinator, in developing the standards of GTA
Apprenticeship:
Academic job-related instructional curriculum
On-the-Job learning/training processes
