Solar Energy in Transportation – What is it?
- We researched using solar energy to improve transportation methods
- Solar energy is currently being developed to provide solar roadways, cars,
buses, and even planes
- Solar reduces waste and harmful gases into the environment
- Helps make transportation more efficient

Relevance of Solar Energy in Transportation
- Using solar energy pollutes the air much less
than emissions from cars
- Fossil fuels aren’t unlimited and the sun is
never-ending energy source
- Creating solar powered transportation will result
in a major amount of jobs being created
compared to other industries

Renewable circles show annual energy potential, while the fossil fuel and nuclear
energy circles are representing total known reserves.

Relevance of Solar Energy in Transportation
- Would heavily impact everyone involved with the oil and gas companies as
they would not be required to be open anymore
- Many gas stations would need to be converted to charging stations which
creates new jobs
- The price of an average solar powered car is estimated to be about
$200,000. While people would save on gas, it would be a large upfront
investment

History of Solar Powered Transportation
- Research teams have been designing cars with built in solar panels to
generate energy that powers the cars engine
- A solar team, Solar Team Eindhoven, has designed a solar powered car that
seats four people
- The car is so energy efficient that it can generate more energy than it uses to
drive, over the course of a year
