...why?
These exercises are part of the creative
result of the project InnerEye. The project
is meant as a series of collaborative
compositional practices, in which a
performer is developing pieces with
composers without making use of any visual
inputs. The project is inspired by an
attempt to imagine a blind musician's
concept on sound, and a quest for
purification of our learning processes and
internalization of music.
There is no overall order of the exercises,
but the order within a subject/folder
should be respected.
performance use
The exercises can be combined to create ritual/game pieces
for performance.
Combination rules:
• Any cards within different categories can be
combined. This is also advised for practicing.
• It is possible to combine cards within the
same category in the same piece, but that
could only generate an addition on the
vertical (different layers play different
mechanisms from the same category) or an
addition on the horizontal (new sections,
extensions of form). They cannot be merged
into a monolith.
• It is recommended to develop and explore more
possibilities than the processes as they are
described. If you would like to share your
findings, please contact

practice use
Recommendations:
-It is possible but not mandatory to keep track
of the progress. However, the notation should
happen outside the frame of the practice. It
recommended to make no use of paper and pencil
– or notation – during the practice of these
exercises. Audio notes could be an option.
-Details for the exercises are hopefully given in
such a way as to leave space for the performer
to develop their own versions and explore their
own areas of interest. Each of the cards
presents cognitive exercises which require an
extended period of practice to allow the brain
to be comfortable with them. They should not be
regarded as “recipes”.
DYNAMIC MAP
Think about an intense memory with a
person that you deeply care about.
Remember as much as possible from
those moments: the sound of their
voice, the soundof their voice in
your head, the smell, the feel of
your body, your feelings.
