Diabetic foot disease is a consequence of multiple pre disposing
factors ( i.e. PDN, PAD, infection)
Foot ulcers/ infections account for up to 20% of diabetes related
hospital admissions (1)
In the UK 169 amputations are carried out on a weekly basis
84% of this cohort are due to diabetic foot ulcers
Peripheral arterial disease ( PAD) is present in almost 50% of DFUs
Every 20 seconds limb is lost to diabetes around the world ( 2)
The majority of diabetes related amputations are preceded by a
foot ulcer
