               Dear Badger parents and carers,           
               Welcome back, we hope you all had a good break. Once again our newsletter will outline what your children will be learning this 
               term. 
               English; The Power of Reading; The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, by Kate DiCamillo 
               We will be continuing with this poignant adventure story, set in North America. Through a roller coaster of emotions, Edward, a 
               china  rabbit,  experiences  wildly  different  settings,  identities  and  owners,  thereby  gradually  learning  the  value  of  love  and 
               friendship.  
               Spelling 
               This term, we will continue using the No Nonsense Spelling Programme to set between 10 and 20 spellings each week. The 
               children will have their spelling tests each Friday and receive new spellings that same afternoon. Learning at home will be an 
               extension of the practice in school. Please help your child learn their spellings each week and become a Super Speller! Let them 
               show you the word pyramids and word art that we create in school to help learn new words! 
               Maths

               Science: States of matter 
               The children will learn to… 
                             Compare and group materials together, according to whether they are solids, liquids or gases 
                             Observe that some materials change state when they are heated or cooled, and measure or research the temperature 
                              at which this happens in degrees Celsius (°C) 
                             Identify the part played by evaporation and condensation in the water cycle and associate the rate of evaporation with 
                              temperature. 
                
                
                
               Homework 
               In line with our school policy homework will be issued as follows; 
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       
    English Homework  
    This will be issued on a Friday and will need to be handed in by the following Wednesday. There will be a mixture of grammar 
    and punctuation activities. The activities will, where possible, relate to what the children have been learning that week. 
    Maths 
    This will be issued on a Friday and will need to be handed in by the following Wednesday. There will be a mixture of online My 
    Maths activities and worksheets. The activities will, where possible, relate to what the children have been learning that week. 
    Times Tables   
    Times Tables should be learned every week, and are tested on Friday.   
    Reading  
    Children will be responsible for changing their own books and are able to do this every day if they wish. Children should be 
    encouraged to write comments in their reading record book, every day. We would appreciate your co-operation in ensuring that 
    the book is signed at least three times a week, along with the date and any comments you may wish to make with regard to your 
    child’s reading.  
    It is extremely important that your child reads daily. We expect children to read for at least 10 minutes every day. Even the most 
    independent of readers will need to discuss the content of the book with an adult. Please ensure that they understand the 
    vocabulary and that they are reading with expression and above all enjoyment!  
    P.E.  
    Our PE sessions will continue on a Wednesday and Friday.  Please ensure your child has their kit in school on these days; they 
    will need their full outdoor kit too.  Please make sure that all your child’s belongings are clearly labelled with forename and 
    surname.  
    Finally, please feel free to use your child’s contact book to inform me of any day-to-day issues. After school is the best time to 
    speak with me in person. Alternatively, you may make an appointment to see me via the school office.
