Overview
AsofDecember2014,allEuropeannutritionlabelsmustlistandidentifypotentialallergensin
accordancewithEURegulationN°1169/2011.Thisregulationhelpscustomersmakeinformed
decisionsabouttheingredientsandnutritionofthefoodandbeveragestheyconsume.Food
manufacturers,businessfoodoperatorsanddistributorsmustclearlymarkandemphasizeall
allergens in the ingredient list.

Thesampletemplateincludesaverysimpledesignforthesolepurposeoflettingyouformatand
brandyourlabelasyouseefit.Youcanmanuallyreplacethesampleingredientswithyourown,or
morelikely, retrieve your ingredient list from a database, spreadsheet or ERPsystem.

Select Your Language
In order to accuratelyidentifythe allergens in your ingredient list, you must specifywhat language(s)
youringredient list is in. To do so:
1. IntheDataSourcesToolboxpane,expandtheNamed Data Sourcesnode.
2. Double-clickonthenameddatasourceentitled"LanguageID".TheNamed Data Sources
dialogopens.
3. Withthe"LanguageID"nameddatasourcestillselected,replacethedatawiththeISO-639
codethatcorrespondstooneofthesixlanguagessupportedbythesampledocument.See
AppendixAofthisdocumentformoreinformation.
4. ClickClosetoclosetheNamedDataSourcesdialogandreturntoyourtemplate.
Update the Allergen List
BarTender'ssampledocumentcontainsalistof30commonallergens,asdefinedbyEURegulation
N°1169/2011.Thisallergenlistisintendedtobeastartingpointfortheallergensusedinyour
productionenvironment,andisstoredinanexternaltextfile,Allergens.txt.Alist oftheseincluded
allergens are also listed in AppendixB ofthis white paper.
NOTE:Youarefullyresponsibleformaintainingtheallergenandexceptionslistand
complyingwiththeEU Regulation.Theallergens(andexceptions)includedwiththis
sampledocumentmaynotcomprehensivelycoverallallergensderivedfromthe
categoriesdefinedbytheEU Regulation.Updatestotheinstalledallergenlist should
include allvariations ofthe allergens used in your company, includingspellingvariations
(e.g. kamut vs kamult), translated allergen names, pluralforms ofthe allergens (e.g. egg
vseggs)and/orspecifictypesofanallergen(e.g.salmon,herring,mackerelandsquid
all fall under the category "fish").
